What is the difference between Outlook Express and Outlook?
Learn how to set up Outlook Express quickly below, but first, we wanted to briefly explain where you might come across the Outlook Express email client. For those of you who use the Microsoft web browser, Internet Explorer, specifically versions 4.0 through to 6.0, Outlook Express is the email program included.
Typically bundled with Microsoft Windows, Outlook Express is NOT actually a simplified version of Microsoft Outlook as many believe it to be. It is a totally different email client with an entirely different code set. It also includes a new feature.
Outlook Express came part of the Windows XP and Windows 2000 software packages. For Vista and Windows 7, Windows Live Mail replaced Outlook Express as the included email client.
Note: Outlook Express is not compatible with the Outlook MAPI connector. The Outlook MAPI connector is only compatible with Outlook 2003, 2007, or Outlook 2010. Click on the link highlighted above to download the connector now and to learn how to configure it.
Step 1: Open Microsoft Outlook Express. The below screenshot illustrates how to launch Outlook Express using the Start menu on your computer.
Step 2: Select Accounts from the Tools menu, (the 4th drop-down menu from the top left).
Step 3: Click on the Mail tab.
Step 4: Click the Add button. Then select Mail from the menu that appears.
Step 5: For your Display name, enter the name you want to associate with this email account. Normally, this will be your first and last name. Then click Next.
Step 7: Select the server type you will be using. Enter both the incoming and outgoing mail servers.
We have used the Fastmetrics email service settings for our clients, as an example below. This will be mail.yourdomain.com. Then click Next.
Step 8: For Account name, enter your full email address. For Password enter the password you set up for your email account. Optionally select Remember password by placing a check in that box. Then click Next.
